hello welcome Churchill my name is mrs. Parrish nor I am the principal of Churchill School I have to tell you I couldn't be more proud or humble to be the principal of this outstanding Turtle team I passion the dedication are unmatched and I want to take a moment just to celebrate the launching of the school year like no other so applies to our team on that note I have to take a moment to thank all of you a sincere thank you to all of you for your positivity your warm welcome your cat your kind words of encouragement and all of the hopes that you've shared with me for the future this has been an incredible cast and I appreciate it very very much I also just want to acknowledge that our journey together into remote learning is forcing our partnership between school and home to be very very different than it's ever been before so I look for to my value very much your positivity your patience and I look forward to our dialogue about how we're going to grow and change together over to next school year so I will before I turn this over to some very important folks I wanted to make sure I touched on number one that our students and families are at the heart of everything that we do I want to focus in on our goals this school year we are going to focus in on creating a safe and joyful school for all we are also going to make sure that we keep a pulse on improving student outcomes a multitude of different outcome social emotional learning and academic both I want to include everyone in on those so you better believe that I'm counting on you to be a part of that planning to be a part of the strategies and the work for us to shine bright we got a bunch of Champions in this community and I'm super excited about it so our theme this year based on this booked by Kwame Alexander The Playbook if you haven't checked it out please do so it's a great sound right before bed reading my girls and I really enjoy it it's an amazing you're going to see the theme Reddit in you out are school year in lots of different ways so stay tuned for that some nuts and bolts information for all of you first of all please know that Midway through the trimester in a couple weeks we are going to be reaching out to you to get your very valuable put on things that we can do suggestions questions that we can build on what we have started here we know that things are not perfect and we're working through all kinds of things we appreciate your patience as we problem solved but we're really excited the way we've begun but we we know that using your input we can build on what we have so be on the lookout for that survey as we become more comfortable and as we dig into the learning the school year please notice that your schedule allows for the following things live whole group instruction with a teacher small group or one-on-one instruction with a teacher independent work time as well as brakes it was important to us to have a balance within the schedule of zooming computer time and being able to do some independent work as well attendance is taken before 10:45 each day so please note that when your child is with her homeroom teacher during that first black attendance is being taken it's very important. you show up on time ready to learn to do everything you can to make sure that that is possible also please continue to use the hotline for attendance issues if your child is going to be out or even for a portion of the day please alert our front office lunch is available and there's no cost all the way through December 31st so from 11 to 1 you can stop by the sports complex to pick up a lunch your child does need to note that they would like a lunch during their morning meeting with their homeroom teacher so please make sure that they do so if you're interested in that take advantage that it's a great program again if you are missing materials or need materials that the teacher has arranged for you to pick up materials you can do so in the main office if you have any needs please shout and let us know I've been in regards to materials now before I introduce you to some other very important folks I wanted to make note that our team has worked very very hard to prepare a wonderful evening for you I hope you've enjoyed experience so far they work very hard to welcome you to give you some important information but if you did not get a chance to ask a question or get an answer please note on your flyer there's a Q&A submission so if you want to ask a question please that on the survey link we're going to compile all the frequently asked questions and we will release answers to the ones that are that are most common questions all right now to some important facts that you need to know hi my name is with Sean Zimmerman and I am one of the secretaries at Churchill I'm here to help teachers parents and students heitor tell Wesley I am one of the secretaries are some of the things I do I take attendance and her phone have teachers and staff can't wait to see you all. Hi my name is Tanya duplexes and I am the school social worker as well as the 504 coordinator here to my role is to support the students with their social emotional mean I'm not only support the students but I support the staff and families as well funny school psychologist education plan I provide counseling services in special education alright anatomist Williamson hi guys my name is Alisa Williamson I'm the dean of students here at Churchill School I'm excited to share a few items with you this evening first and foremost here District 153 in Church Hill we hold social emotional learning as a high priority for our students is very important to us to provide a foundation for safe and positive learning and give our students a platform to succeed here at school this year that SEL time is happening in your child's classroom each day your child will participate in conversations and activities that are geared towards allowing him or her that opportunity to reflect learn more about him or herself or others and the all that we live in the facilitate this learning we are implementing the Second Step curriculum research shows that sell not only closely ties the student academic success but also increases pro-social behaviors such as kindness sharing and empathy and also helps improve students attitudes towards School are go with rsco program is to help students continually develop five key skills self-awareness self-management awareness relationship skills and responsible decision-making in your child schedule as you seen there is a Time Each Day for SEL Circle time as well as built in time for mindfulness the mindfulness is what is another opportunity for students to have each day to reflect Focus their attention on the present moment your child will receive an empowerment journal and in that journal is opportunities for your child to have discussions and Reflections on such topics as opposite of optimism motivation fear and courage and a lot more additionally these journals allow students to set goals for themselves and tractor progress towards making those goals and wine with our social emotional program we are school also values the implementation of restorative practices restorative practices are framework for building community and for responding to challenging behaviors do authentic dialogue coming to an understanding and making things right it's important to us as a staff that our students understand that they are very important part of our Churchill Community our goals here are to help ensure that our culture is positive and joyful last we parents you and your students have received a copy of our remote learning parent and student handbook the handbook shares expectations that we have for our students here at Churchill the expectations are skylines your child needs to make sure did they follow to help ensure them that they are prepared and ready to learn each and every day additionally I PBIS team has shared a matrix students have reviewed this Matrix in their classes with their teachers and their other students I understand that a part of our Bulldog best behavior our 3 B's as we like to call them being saved being responsible and being respectful. Riley pass who is one of our reading interventionist Churchill families like mrs. Wilkinson said I am really fast I am one of the reading specialist at Churchill I'm going to share some information with you about the teacher support intervention time in your child schedule is teacher support intervention time is where your child's needs are really focused on right now the time of your child schedule May look a little different strength and weakness when it comes to reading we're going to gather information through one-on-one readings with students this gives teachers and idea where their students stand in the areas of reading fluency and comprehension or math we will determine where students are multiple short scale bass test these along with classroom assignments and teacher observations will help to determine what their small groups will work on for reading and math the teachers been able to gather information and how your child may work on specific skills and reading and math their classroom teacher or with an interventionist typically when students are working with a classroom teacher need additional practice and with the content that is being taught in the classroom when students are working with an interventionist they will be working on skills that they were unable to master and previous grades on progress in the current grade level but teachers are frequently assessing student needs and student progress of the extra support that your child may receive will could change very often and look different from day-to-day and I'm everyone my name is Mary Kay Gardner and assistant principal here at Churchill couple things that I'm going to go over next starting next week the teachers will begin to sat students in reading and math very excited we have a new reading and writing resource program called Benchmark that uses research-based best practices to provide Innovative resource is for diverse Learners some highlights of this program include teacher read-alouds that will create class community and build fluency in reading comprehension skills teachers will provide short lessons on word study writing and comprehension and then will be followed up by independent work time to apply these new skills teachers will provide differentiated instruction in small groups to enhance student achievement in reading and writing this year the staff will be piloting to math programs the masked committee research materials that received high ratings in focus and coherence mathematical practices alignment to Common Core in music the programs we chose had high ratings in all categories in an all areas therefore we decided to Pilot old bridges in mathematics and envision all students will be learning the same skills and Concepts in both programs thank you I wanted to close with everyone where you headed off to explore some of our partner organizations or band Orchestra choir I wanted to make sure you knew on your flyer you see one word world reflect and think about what does Churchill means you were going to compile all those were words create a word cloud and send it out to all of our families so we're excited to see what we come up with we appreciate you being here with us this evening it's been a pleasure thank you so much don't forget the Q&A link as well as the word Elaine and now what happens next is there some community links orb a Nordstrom choir you can explore and go ask some questions at the resume Links at this time from 7 to 7:30 thank you so much for joining us we will see you soon have
