hello and welcome to Churchill school I miss means your child's third grade homeroom teacher the purpose of this video is to give you a little idea of what the first few days of I will look like virtually in this video I'm going to share a PowerPoint with you and also show a couple of websites that will be helpful for you as we navigate the start of the school year a little bit about myself this is my 13th year teaching and Homewood schools I have taught both 3rd and 5th grade and I'm passionate about helping children reach their goals and really exceed their expectations and I strongly believe that the most successful successful learning experience is Duke from a collaboration between parents students and teachers and I think this year more than ever that is going to ring true as we set off in Uncharted Territory so where do we begin the first step is checking your child's laptop bag for instructions on logging into the various instructional platforms that would have been picked up this week at the pie pickup at Churchill School you have not picked those items up yet please contact the school office as soon as possible to arrange for pick up remote learning resources are available through the district website this is very helpful for parents to get started with the technology I am going to show you that website to help you in navigating that first step so we are here at the Check website hsd153. Org notice that convenient pop-up button has now appear that says take me to remote learning Central that is there now to help parents kind of get pointed in the right direction but some point if that's no longer there you can always access the Spy going to schools and under the schools tab you'll see remote learning 2020-2021 and you can click that as well so if you do click into the room Central you will see a page full of information and resources to help parents and families important resource to start off with the parent handbook if you are going in there you'll see some important information concerning schedules as well as technology and general expectations for students also the text support that is critical piece as well and under the tech support you're going to see the frequently asked questions as well as Churchill / James Hart resources that's really going to be important to she started with the technology piece so once the technology is up and running soon as will be joining their virtual classrooms via Zoom links those Zoom links Argo post it on Microsoft teams but while we are adjusting to the virtual learning process I will also email those links directly to you for your convenience so please make sure that you are successfully receiving email from Parent Portal and email from teachers that have the hsd153. Org attached to the end so just watch your junk mail folder because sometimes those emails me find their way in class begins on Monday August 31st at 8:30 a.m. attendance does get reported to the office daily so please contact the office if your child will not be present for the online learning piece virtual classroom expectations during the first days of school we are going to go over those expectations are throughout the building teachers will be going over those expectations students but also I please remember the student handbook that's located on the district websites that will give you the specific district-wide expectations for students during virtual learning some basic so for the first day of just getting started off being on time being ready for learning setting up in a quiet area as much as possible having the laptop charged and on ready to go headphones if you have them and then a dry erase board and Mark which I did include in the supply bag for my iHome room so the first days of school we will be focusing on establishing routines becoming familiar with the technology and some Getting to Know You activities so the schedule this is the first half of the schedule the schedules are also found in the parent student handbook so feel free to so look there for copy but the first half of the day you'll notice the areas that are in green those are areas where students will be receiving direct interaction with their peers and teachers the areas in green 8:30 to 9:30 each day then you'll notice 9:30 to 11 on Monday through Thursday are shaded in the Lilac or lavender color and in those time. at 9:30 to 11 most days students will not be having direct instruction with their teachers for that entire 90-minute. But it will be more so a time of schedule and small groups so you may see that your child is meeting with a t care for 20 30 minutes during that time. But not the entire 90 minutes again to schedule can be found on the student handbook that's available online second half of the day following lunch will also see for Monday through Thursday in green so that means direct interaction with your child specials teachers including PE and health and teachers will Beast there are links to you to join these classes again the routine will be for them to be posted on teams but as we know we're kind of getting used to those routines and getting the technology setup so for your convenience teachers are going to be emailing links out to you for your child to join their particular classes you'll notice from 1:32 to 10 Monday through Thursday is in yellow so that's the social studies and science time but that is pre-recorded instruction so your child will have a link to watch a pre-recorded video and follow through with an assignment if there is one for that day the area again in Lilac or lavender the 210 to 305 teacher support and intervention this again is a time that is flexible your child most likely almost days will not be receiving direct instruction for the entire time but may be placed into some small groups for 20 to 30 minutes and then ending off the day will see a mindfulness section and green from 3:05 to 3:15 that's just kind of like our checking back in together kind of wrapping up the day as we proceed next at least me to the communication piece which is going to be critical as we are moving with virtual learning so my contact email is Taney. Means at hsd153. Org watch for emails coming from Parent Portal so if I send an email just directly to you it will come from that pain a. Means at hsd153. Org address however if I send out an email to the entire class or portions of the class it may be coming through the school District portal Parent Portal so again sometimes those make their way into junk mail folder so just double checking for those and also another level of communication for us is the remind app so for parent and teacher there is no need to download the app to receive messages for me so I know some people don't like to have a bunch of strange apps on their phone myself included, but this is a great way that we can communicate quick little messages via text and you don't have to download the app so I'm going to give you some information on that so you can text at 7 H 477 g28 1010 to join our class Center so it will not be lengthy text messages or things coming through out text messages all throughout the day baby for quick notifications maybe I've sent an important email and want to make sure that everyone can see it so I might send out a text message to the class that says parents please check your email or quick reminder so again you do not have to download the app when you do go in and text this message it will give you that option and say would you like to download if you choose not to you do not need to download that app to your phone but again this is a great way for you to get quick on the messages from me and then lastly patience I thank you in advance for that because I know that this year is going to be challenging but it's also going to be very rewarding so I just want us to keep lines of communication open feel free to reach out to me if you have questions and I look forward to seeing the little ones on Monday morning 8:30 have a great week
