March 25, 2021 Updates

1, Evidence suggests that taking temperatures at the door is no longer a useful tool to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the schools. The CDC, along with joint guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois State Board of Education, no longer recommend symptom screening at school because of its limitations. Schools in District 153 may choose to eliminate temperature checks based on this information. Symptoms screening at home before arriving on school grounds or boarding school transportation is still an essential part of stopping the spread.  Please be sure to do a health check at home each day, and send your student to school with a paper form (Willow) or apply the wristband (Churchill & James Hart) to signify this has been done. If you have any questions, please reach out to the nurse at your student’s school.

2.Illinois Department of Public Health has updated School’s Exclusion Guidance for COVID Symptoms. Please do not send your student to school if they exhibit any of the following symptoms:
  • Fever (100.4 degrees or higher)
  • New onset of moderate to severe headache
  • Shortness of breath
  • New or worsening cough
  • Sore throat
  • Vomiting/diarrhea
  • New loss of sense of taste or smell
  • Fatigue from unknown cause
  • Muscle/body aches from unknown cause
